Currency Exchange?

I will be leaving soon for France from NY. Would you recommend that I exchange USD to EUR at a bank here, or use the ATM machines in Europe? A friend of mine mentioned that the rates were lower when she used ATM machines in Europe. I called my bank and they charge 1%-2% for conversion rates. Please let me know!

Use the ATMs once you arrive in France; exchanging currency in the US will cost you jore.

Banks usually charge a fee whether you use ATM%26#39;s or exchange at a bank, however some card issuers waive or refund ATM charges. Check with the issuer of your card(s). To get the best dollar/euro exchange rate, you%26#39;ll probably do better at ATM%26#39;s. I recently used a Visa debit/credit card in France and was satisfied with the exchange rate. Let your issuer know to expect to see charges from France. No doubt you%26#39;ll find an ATM in your arrival airport.

I will definitely wait to exchange EUR at the ATM machines in France. Does it matter if you take out money at the ATM in the Nice airport or at a ATM in a bank in Nice? Or is it the same exchange rate?

It should be about the same, though it%26#39;s conceivable that the airport rate could be a bit higher. Even if the rate is a penny or two higher, it isn%26#39;t enough to make a real difference. I don%26#39;t like to leave an airport without local currency in hand, so I use ATM%26#39;s there.
