Two nights in Loire...

Hello,

We would like to spend two nights in Loire whilst we are on our hols. We%26#39;re heading down from Caen on a Thursday and so need somewhere Thursday and Friday night, before we head back up into Brittany (where we%26#39;re staying for a week in a cottage).

We don%26#39;t want to head too deep into the area, but would like to see some lovely things!lol! I know two nights isn%26#39;t much, but some pointers would be much appreciated. As most of our holiday is in Brittany, my boyfriend would like to head into Loire to experience something of a wine-producing area. I was thinking somewhere near Angers or Nantes...

We have camping gear so would happily camp, or can stay in a little hotel...open to options!

Thanks very much, in advance.

Hellie

Try Saumur then, it is a pretty town, with an attractive Chateau that is easy to visit, and also the National Riding School of France which often put on shows and demonstrations in town, and the Saumur area makes its own style lovely White Wine that is very difficult to find outside of France:

And then it is relatively close to Brittany for your next move, too!

I would go further west, and base yourselves around Tours. You have a bigger choice of chateaux to visit, and you are between the Vouvray (white) and Chinon (red) wine areas.

Sorry - should of course be %26quot;further east%26quot;

If you want a large city go for Tours or Angers. But if you are there to visit all the city attractions there will be little time in 1 day to travel elsewhere.

Saumur is not so big, so you can do it and visit elsewhere too. Besides the National Equestrian Centre, on the same road, is the Combier distillery. Many beverages produced but try Triple Sec on ice. It%26#39;s an orange liquer, there are different brands but this is the best I have tasted.

Chinon with its wine and chateau is a tad nearer Saumur than Tours.

For a hotel with a view - the Loire Hotel looks from it%26#39;s large island across the river to the old town and chateau, which is illuminated in season. A 5 min riverside walk to the centre.

Choose wherever suits you, it is a river valley worth seeing.

If I remember correctly Caen to Tours is about 4 hours, including a stop for a picnic lunch. Try to find a nice B and B in a village in that area. There are many chateau to see

Some lovely ideas to investigate there...thanks very much!
