I have taken sooo many notes from this wonderful site. Thank you!! But I still need a little help....Four of us are getting to St. Remy on Thursday around noon and staying until Saturday afternoon.(5/15-5/17) I%26#39;m trying to figure out what to see and where to go in this short time. We would love to go to a market if possible. We will have a rental car. I thought for Thursday we would explore St. Remy. Can anyone recommend a route to take to hit a market on Friday morning and end back at St. Remy? We would like to stop in a few towns to have lunch, walk, shop (love pottery) and take in some history. We will also have some time Saturday morning before we train out of Avignon around 4pm. Restaurant recommendations welcome-nothing too expensive. Thanks again!! :)

For the rest of Thursday I would suggest that you visit the Roman ruins at either Glanum or Les Antiques which are just outside of the city limits. You can/should follow up with a visit to the Medieval ruins at Les Baux (about a 15 min. drive) - they are awsome - and end the day with a glass of vin rose from one of the local vinyards in downtown Maussane. There are a number of wonderful restaurants in this immediate area or, you may opt to go back to St. Remy where there are also several really good places to do dinner.
On Friday, since you want to %26quot;do%26quot; a market you should consider Carpentras. It is a really nice market and you can use it as a jumping off place for visiting the Luberonnother option would be to visit Arles and spend some time visiting the wonderful Roman ruins, including the Arena, Baths and Les Alycamps (burial ground) and then shhopping in an area that includes shops of all the best known Provencal brands.
Since you are departing from Avignon on Saturday afternoon, I would suggest an early departure from St.Remy and, if possible leaving your luggage at the station and spending the time until your train leaves visiting the Palias des Papes and, doing lunch at either Les Moutardier (located right on the Place du Palais) of at La Fourchette, 17 rue Racine whch is just one block off the Place du Palais and is owned by the same folks that own Hiely Lucullas.

Saint Remy has a Saturday produce market. I believe Wednesday is their big market day though. Eygalières, about 20 minutes to the west has a small traditional market on Friday mornings. In St. Remy, the Roman ruins of Glanum and the Asylum next door where VanGogh painted Starry Night and his Iris series are a must see. The tour of the latter is recommended - tickets at the town tourism center. Be sure to visit the chocolate shop of Joel Durand in the town center - best I%26#39;ve ever had. The Roman hilltop city of Les Baux is just over the Alpilles to the south with beautiful views over the Valley de Baux, home to the finest olive oil in France. Visit the Moulin Jean Marie Cornille Mill in Mausanne-Les-Alpilles for great oil. We%26#39;ll be making our third return to Saint Remy the week prior to your visit.

Thank you for all your suggestions! It helps so much-it can be overwhelming as to what to see and do as a first timer. We are sooo excited, I have my suitcase packed and I don%26#39;t leave for 7 days...
