We are staying at Le Manoir les Minimes for one night in September. How far is the walk into the city and is it safe at night. We are wanting to have a nice dinner somewhere, not necessarily in town but nowhere we have to drive. I%26#39;m nervous enough about driving in France as we are from Australia and we drive on the left hand side of the road so even the driving will be a foreign experience especially at night, any recommendations, thank you.

Amboise is absolutely, completely safe.
Not sure where your accommodations are, but rest easy about safety.

Amboise is perfectly safe and I walked around at night as well. It sounds like you will have a car. Perhaps you will be used to driving on the other side by then that you%26#39;d feel comfortable enough to drive instead of walk anyway. Amboise is not a big traffic city anyway and it%26#39;s certainly easier to navigate than Melbourne.

You will have no problems in Amboise.

I%26#39;m staying at le Manoir les Minimes, is this a far walk Thanks

From Le Manoir des Minimes it is about 5 minutes walk to the centre of Amboise.

Thankyou, any recommendations for a place to eat, midrange simple food, not most xpensive.

Try L%26#39;Epicerie, in the Place Michel Debré, at the side of the chateau by the main pedestrian entrance.

Thank you for your replies, I can%26#39;t wait to visit this part of the world, seeing the chateuxs is a major highlight of my trip to France, cheers, Lily.

Enjoy les Minimes; we stayed there last year in May in Suite 10--it was a dream. Very easy 5 minute walk to the square/chateau. There is a Salon de The/Chocolatier to your right as you enter the square. They have inexpensive lunches/breakfast, great quiches, soups and of course dessert. For a splurge, Pavilion de Lys is a great value for a gourmet meal; it is about 10 minutes easy walk from Les Minimes.

Whatever restaurant you decide on,reservations is a must as the restaurants get pretty full and they turn people away without reservations. Just ask the people at the hotel for their list of menus and they will graciously make reservations for you.
