What would be the best method of travel to go to Cannes for the day. We will be staying in Nice and I fancy a day trip to Cannes on 15/05/08 is rail the best or bus and if so can anyone tell us which bus to catch many thanks

getting to canne from nice is easy. the fastest way would be the train. Just walk to the train station, check the schedules, there are alot of trains going though cannes. You will get off just a block or so from the center of town. You can walk wherever you want to go in cannes. walk back to the station and catch the train to nice. You can easily do it in a day, in fact, as far as I am concerned, a day is too much time in cannes.

May I second that? Cannes is not very exciting, it has a very downmarket feel to me. I wouldn%26#39;t waste my time there if I were you, with so many lovely places to visit nearby.

Me too, Cannes is not very impressive at all.Probably the only disappointment of our last trip.

There is so much to see in Nice and the area (Eze-Village, Villa Ephrussi Rotschild in Villefranche-sur-Mer, Villa Kerylos in Beaulieu, Menton, etc.). Unless you stop in Cannes on your way to Mougins or Biot or Cagnes-sur-Mer, a stop in Cannes is by no means necessary.

Hi All,
Cannes ..... well, for what it is, it is most certainly amazing! The city has a very different feel to most other paces on The Riviera. Flashy it can most certainly be, though it has an underbelly of French cool, culture, and history. I love architecture, and the Belles Epoque buildings on La Croisette are the finest you will see in the south.
A drive along La Croisette is mesmorising for it%26#39;s hotels, people, cars, bars and shop views ..... though from the port, look right and what a Mediteranean vista! It is a different place, with a different feel to other resorts, but all share the same Gaelic charm it has to be said.
Nice is too big and industrial for me, though I still admire its beauty. Antibes is a daily haunt when we are there, though it feels too small. So you see - you have to experience these places for yourself, for I am most certainly not going to tell you what to do, where to go, and what %26#39;is%26#39; or %26#39;is not%26#39; worth it in the scheme of things ... just find out for your self.
The whole cost is beautiful, and every place has beauty, so enjoy it all ...... I am sure of nothing other that you will.

Definately take the train. It%26#39;s a little bit of a walk from the station to the good part of Cannes (maybe 15-20 minutes?)
Personally I enjoyed Cannes. It%26#39;s a bit of a %26#39;city%26#39;(a LITTLE city) yet there%26#39;s this really cool %26#39;old town%26#39; area where you walk up a hill and there are really cool little cafes along the way. Very quaint and picturesque.
Don%26#39;t be discouraged. Cannes is worth a visit. Very pretty once you get down to the beaches.
Small town easy to navigate. It%26#39;s worth adding %26#39;Cannes%26#39; to the places you%26#39;ve visited. Met alot of travel snobs that poo-poo%26#39;ed the place...hmmm! Guess they have an inside scoop on
%26#39;other%26#39; places; but personally enjoyed Cannes quite a bit.

well I am definately not a %26quot;travel snob%26quot;. We research hotels and restaraunts for months before a trip. Anyone can through money at a trip and not experience the best. We also list all possible places and side trips and visit as many as possible. As far as the Riviera is concerned, and of course this is subjective as all reviews must be, I would much rather use my valuable available time to visit Eze, Ville Franche, Cap Farrat et al, St. Paul de Vence and the Maight, Antibes and Nice and all it has to offer before I would spend 15 minutes on Cannes. All of these places are easily attainable by rail and are mostly very short trips. The exception is St. Paul de Vence and there is direct bus service from Nice for that one. You can leave in the morning and get up there for breakfast and lunch, visit and discover and return in the medium late afternoon. Have fun.

Cannes has one attraction that no other Cote-d%26#39;Azur resort has - beautiful islands. If you want to get away from it all (and if you%26#39;re prepared to stroll a bit once you%26#39;re there), take a trip out to the Isles de Lerins. Idyllic.

Hi,
Can I quickly add that if you plan on going on the 15th you%26#39;ll be hitting the Cannes film festival?
Guess it that Cannes is actually going to be packed that week, so depending on why you%26#39;re going there, you might not want to have to deal with the crowd?
