trip to Provence late May

My wife and I are in Nice/Provence for 11 days in late May and I have benefited greatly from this forum. Thanks! Can you recommend a romantic restaurant for a 25th wedding anniversary dinner in the Isle sur la Sorgue/Gordes area? Also, if I am driving from Nice to Gordes, does it make any sense to spend the time and take the longer scenic route through Gourdon, past the Gorge, and through the Luberon versus the quick autoroute? Thanks

Since you will be in the South of France (Nice/Provence) for 11 days it would be a real help if you could provide us with a more specific schedule as it will enable us to make appropriate restaurant recommendations.

Hi AlpillesGal (et al)

We will have two nights in Nice, three nights in Gordes at La Ferme de la Huppe, two nights in L%26#39;Isle sur la Sorgue at Les Carmes, one night in Aix, two nights in Cassis, and one last night in Vence. Any special restaurant suggestions for those areas for a 25th anniversary dinner will be appreciated. We are having dinner at La Ferme de la Huppe and Les Carmes one night each.

Also, can anyone tell me the advisability of driving from Nice to Gordes via the %26quot;back roads%26quot; through the country versus the autoroute? Obviously time is the biggest issue, but is the back road ride worth the extra time? Thanks to all!

To take the %26quot;back road%26quot; from Nice to Gordes means driving the Route Napoléon, which is very scenic. Going out to Gourdon first would add several hours to your trip; so it depends on how much time you have. Personally, I would go straight on through with a brief stop at Castellane (a charming mountain town) and then to Moustiers-Ste-Marie. At Moustiers you could have an anniversary lunch at Les Santons or the Bastide de Moustiers; it%26#39;s a beautiful little village known for its faïence. Don%26#39;t miss it.

We stayed at La Ferme de la Huppe and thought it very nice. The chef is Swiss-trained and excellent.
