How many euros ?

I learned from other posts that it%26#39;s best to use ATMs to get euros. But how many euros should I have in my pockets when I arrive at CDG? Also, I think I might brave the RER B to my hotel, so will I need coins for the ticket machine?

As a general rule...you should probably arrive in Paris with 100€ or so of %26#39;..arrival/convenience cash..%26#39;. This amount should be sufficient to cover any airport transfer fares, tips, sundries and most immediate contingencies, until you arrive at your destination in Paris and find the local ATMs.

Though the automatic vending machines at the RER station in CDG will accept ONLY European-issued, %26#39;smart-chip%26#39; embedded, credit cards and €uro coinage...there are manned ticket booths at these stations that will accept bills and US-issued credit cards. ROISSYBUS and Les Cars Air France Coach will also accept either cash or US-issued credit cards. Taxis will only accept €uro cash.

Many thanks, KDKSails, your posts are always so helpful. How have you come to acquire such detailed knowledge of Paris?

I also bring 100E with me when I go to Paris. I usually get it at my local AAA office. They order it and it takes about 3 days to get the euros. There is a fee for this but it isn%26#39;t that big of a deal because it isn%26#39;t that much money. It is worth it to have the money you need when you arrive at the Paris airport and not have to start looking for a place to exchange money.

Get the tip pack from Triple A if you can. Smaller denominations of bills.

Not that this tip will help until you get to the city but find the closest large LA POSTE and look for the automatic stamp machines. Nearby should be a change machine. Throw a 20 euro note in and voila, change in coins. Best tip I ever got since moving to France. Then you are good for all the vending machines, billet machines, and the baguettes from the boulangeries.

Flashby--another great tip for my next trip to Paris. I get so excited about things like this. It will be my 5th trip so it is harder and harder to learn new things. This was one. Thanks.

Thanks, so much FlashBy and InLoveWithParis!! Great suggestions! I will go to AAA to get my international driver%26#39;s license, but I am not a member - will they still help me with the currency?

creekdweller48: I don%26#39;t think you can use AAA services if you are not a member. However, I have a friend who needed euros and she asked me if I would get them for her from AAA. I said sure, and that is just what I did. No problem. So, try to find someone who is a member of AAA. That shouldn%26#39;t be very hard.
