Coming from Dover -- 1 night stop somewhere?

My daughter (21) and I plan to come into France by ferry, and can spend 1 night somewhere on the way to Paris, all by public transit.

I%26#39;m looking for recommendations as to where we should land, where to spend the night and what we should see, and then how to get to Paris the next day.

There are many different ferry routes from many countries to France, where exactly will be your start point (eg London) that will help to narrow down the MULTIPLE options a bit!

We will be coming from Dover.

Sorry - I realise now that you had put that in your thread title - durr!

From Dover you can go to Calais with P%26amp;0 or Seafrance, to Dunkerque with Norfolk Line, or to Boulogne with Speedferries. Cost wise and journey-time is little difference between them.

Calais and Boulogne are on the same rail line into Paris:

Dunkerque is on a slightly different line:

Options of places easy to get to and stay en-route would be Lille and Arras. Amiens as a third option, but from the map above, not sure that the train go%26#39;s there.

All three are interesting cities or towns, my favourite would be Arras, but they all have much to recommend them.

Good luck in your travels.

Do not get the ferry to Dunkerque. This now docks in the middle of nowhere, and is totally unsuitable for anyone using public transport.

Since the opening of the Channel Tunnel and the closure of harbour stations, life is not that easy for foot passengers in Boulogne and Calais either, but (unlike Dunkerque) it is at least possible to walk to the town train stations, preferably with backpacks.

By train, people usually go from Calais to Paris via Lille, and from Boulogne to Paris via Amiens (another possible place to stop).

Train times may be easier to access here reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en… than on SNCF sites.

Golly, with perlizia%26#39;s excellent information, sounds like you might be better off forgetting the Ferry, and going on Eurostar to Lille for your overnighter, and then train from Lille to Paris!

There are some threads about buses that go on the Ferry to Paris, National Express I think, from Victoria, if you are dead-set on the ferry, that might be an opton for you -

NO a bit of research shows that it is Euroline coach/buses:
