B&B's in France

My husband and I will be leaving for France next week. After 5 days in Paris, we will be renting a car and driving for 3+ weeks throughout as much of the country as we can see leisurely - Brittany, the Loire valley, Provence, and back to Paris. We have no set agenda, so cannot make advance reservations. We%26#39;d like to stop at B%26amp;B%26#39;s whenever possible. What are the chances of being able to do this without making reservations in advance?

Never had any problem this time of the year. We always ring ahead, once we%26#39;ve had lunch, to check availability and adjust our itinerary accordingly.

Thank you! That%26#39;s very reassuring.

Many small and midsized towns in tourist areas have a tourist info office that usually carries a list-sometime with pictures- of the local b%26amp;bs. This time of year is perfect. We did Britanny and Normandy in this manner- one memorable farm on the Contentin Peninsula allowed us access to the salt marsh tidal areas and a fantastic view of the sun setting behind Mt. St. Michel

Enjoy the countryside and swig some calvados for me.

I second the Offices de Tourisme idea. They always have good deals and know really well where to stay in the small towns. I%26#39;ve never made a reservation in France before going there (winter or spring) , so I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll have any problems.

This time, however, I%26#39;ll be going in July and wanted to make reservations as early as possible. I bought this amazing Michelin guide (Charming Places France 2007) that has wonderful b%26amp;b recommendations.

Thanks again for all the info!

Yes, I also bought the Michelin guide to charming places - I was just afraid that without reservations 3 months in advance, we wouldn%26#39;t stand a chance of getting in. But the Office de Tourisme is a great idea - merci beaucoup!

Karen Brown has a very nice book on B%26amp;B%26#39;s in France. She also has an on line listing. I have used her guide many times and have stayed in some really beautiful and nice places. Usually you can have dinner at them, if you arrange it early in the day.

Thanks so much for your suggestions! Leaving in just a few hours..... SO excited!
