Arromanches 360

I know that a lot of people are going to disagree with me about this, so I apologize in advance. However, my opinion is that Arromanches 360 could easily be skipped. After visiting the Normandy beaches over the past week-end, I was struck by how many sights and museums there are that are ready to take the tourist dollar. The films that are shown at the American Cemetary are free and are quite moving. The Arromanches 360 film is almost 8EUR a person and only last for 18 minutes. I did not find that it was even particularly well done. My opinion is to skip it.

And you are quite right in that it is your opinion and I%26#39;m sure many would agree. What I always say to our guests is that, especialy for kids, it is a great way to introduce them to the history of WW2, no documentary, purely vision, present day mixed with WW2 footage, only 18 minutes is a brilliant length of time of young kids with low interest thresshold. Horses for courses. I live in Normandy and have seen all of the films, in all of the museums. There are others that are much more informative, others that are much more moving, but I still always enjoy seeing the 360.

It is absolutely true that it is a good way to be reminded of what exactly did happen at those beaches. We chose to watch Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day with our children prior to our visit. We also read numerous stories with them.

However, if you do not do those types of things, it could be good to do with young children.

MANY folk only allow themselves half-a-day, one day and if lucky up to 2 days to see the Normandy sites. At that pace, you are only going to get an impression of what is there. Arromanches is a popular stop-off because of the Mulberry Harbour, plus it%26#39;s a lovely place anyway, and the 360%26#39; cinema really adds to that IMO.

SURE if you have the luxury of much more time to exhaustively explore all the Beach sites and Museums, you might find other sites that you like more, but don%26#39;t you think the 360%26#39; gives a great overview of the area?? AND done in quite an unusual format. PLUS the view of Arromanches and the coast from the top of that hill is pretty great, and many would not make the effort to go up there if it wern%26#39;t for the Cinema.

Again, please understand that this is just an opinion. It is a beautiful location, but you can easily enjoy the view without watching the film. (Parking was quite inexpensive) I do understand that some people only have a half day or so. I only had one day for the beaches, with three days total for Normandy and Brittany. I did not feel that the film was worthwhile.
