My husband, sister-in-law and I spent 9 days in Paris in late April and we utilized many of the tips and recommendations from this forum. Thanks so much to those who contribute regularly to posts!
Some highlights of our trip:
An afternoon spent at Pere Lachaise-after the intense crowds in Paris, it was lovely to spend several hours wandering through this beautiful and peaceful cemetery.
Versailles - I%26#39;ve dreamed of visiting it since adolescence and it was as spectacular as I%26#39;d hoped. We especially enjoyed visiting the hamlet.
A photo exhibit of Parisians during the Nazi occupation-we read the article in the International Herald Tribune a couple of days after we arrived and saw it our next to the last day there. Good timing, as we%26#39;d already visited many of the locations and it was interesting to see what they looked like 60 years earlier.

Lowlights
I was very disappointed in the behavior of visitors to the Louvre. Digital cameras have, IMHO, really impacted what used to be an appreciative visit to an art museum. Now it seems to be about getting a picture of yourself in front of the Mona Lisa, the Venus De Milo, whatever, rather than looking at and appreciating the art. I couldn%26#39;t believe all the flashes going off at the Louvre. I was blinded several times when I%26#39;d turn around from a painting or sculpture and a flash would go off right in my face. The Musee D%26#39;Orsay and l%26#39;Orangerie didn%26#39;t allow flashes don%26#39;t know why the Louvre didn%26#39;t.
Other info:
We rented a flat from Paris Sweet Home in the Marais and the location was perfect. It%26#39;s the Marais-St. Paul Apartment - number 144 on their website.
After booking the apartment and paying a deposit, we had no other contact with the agency and dealt directly with the apartment owner. We communicated via email and she met us as we arrived from the airport. We did have to bring cash with us to pay the balance of the amount due. The apartment was ok-it didn%26#39;t have any natural sunlight, but was very quiet and met our needs.
Also used the Metro extensively....and found it very fast and efficient. Thanks to the TA contributer who posted the video about using the Metro! It helped allay my anxieties about using the system.
