I want to travel to Provence, from Charles de gaul airport in Paris, hire a car and base myself in a small easily accessbile village. Is Avignon the most central of the Provence towns to travel to by train? will arrive on Sunday aftenoon. Am I able to hire a car from the train station?

Avignon is a good choice for your train destination. You can then rent a car right from the TGV station. Try kemwel.com. I%26#39;ve rented from them and they seem to have good prices.
A short drive away is a lovely B%26amp;B near L%26#39;Isle sur la Sorgue, called Les Carmes (www.lescarmes.com). If they are booked up, they may be able to advise you on other nice options in the area. It%26#39;s a wonderful place from which to explore the surrounding hill towns and other sites of interest.
