Bath or Shower - Hotels

Hi everyone.

Can someone please clarify something for me? Many Paris hotel descriptions say there is a bath or shower and not both in hotel rooms. So does that mean that if there is a bathtub then there isn%26#39;t a hand held thing to spray water over yourself?

Thanks.

Usually, a bath has a hand held sprayer, but not always. And, even with the hand held, there is almost never a shower curtain. Sometimes there is a partial glass shield of some sort, but often there is nothing at all. Often with a shower only (and no tub), the shower is quite compact.

It depends on the hotel, and there are typically different configurations throughout a hotel, depending on the room.

And, rooms are generally not assigned until you check in. When I stayed at Hotel Eiffel Park, I arrived about 9AM. I was offered a choice of room with two beds and shower ready now, or a room with one double bed and bathtub (it had a hand held affixed to the wall, no curtain or shield) at noon. (I chose the latter.) But, you are not always given a choice.

One of the greatest mysteries of French travel that I have encountered after many decades and countless visits there is %26quot;Where is the shower curtain?%26quot;

The logic of bathtubs with hand held, flexible spray heads including wall attachments upon which to hang them, but no shower curtains is completely baffling.

I always ask for a room with a shower (une douche).

The floor stays a lot drier.

When this was discussed on a previous occasion, someone commmented that if you have a bath, it%26#39;s assumed the handheld shower will be used for a quick rinse off, rather than treated as a splash-everywhere shower, hence the lack of screening.

Actually, I%26#39;m always pleased if the bathroom doesn%26#39;t have a mildewed shower-curtain trying to wrap itself round me LOL

Booking self-catering, I%26#39;ve eventually worked out that there may be salle de bain (SdB) meaning bathroom, possibly with shower, and salle d%26#39;eau, which will just have a shower.
