May 1st -labor day

Hi,

We are going to paris in 1 week. We will be there on may 1st....it is labor day. Anyone has any idea what attractions will be open on that day...and what other things we should keep in mind considering lot of things would be closed on may 1st.

Thanks

I am also going to be in Paris on May 1 and had no idea that it was such a big holiday there. I found lots of good info along with tips by searching the Forum. Just put May 1 or Labor Day into the search block at the top of the page and you%26#39;ll get back more information than you can believe.

The Fat Tire tours will be running if that%26#39;s something that would interest you. We%26#39;ll be there at the same time and weather permitting will probably do the night tour.

Since MayDay falls on a Thursday this year, everyone that I know is going to make a long weekend of it, so Paris may be pretty quiet, except for the manifestations that are scheduled. I am not sure about tourist attractions, but every thing else will be closed, so shop for necessities the day before.

It is a good time to just stroll around Paris, and take advantage of its many parks.

I just realized that the contempory art market around the Port de l%26#39;Arsenal at the Bastille will be held over May Day. It starts on the 29th of April and runs for about a week before the Brocante market takes it place.

Thanks everyone !!

After reading Versailles%26#39;s website, I think Versailles Palace is open that day and there is fountain show in the evening. Though there is nothing mentioned that it would be open or closed on May 1st. But i read Fountain show page and it says they have one on may 1st. If right , this could be a good option.

I have just had a blow to my trip - I was planning to take advantage of the late opening and free entrance after 18:00 of under 26%26#39;s to d%26#39;Orsay but now I see that it is closed on Labour Day!!!

Oh well...

Hope you find something nice to do, anyway :-)

Versailles is closed according to website. Even the fnac site for tickets shows closed on May 1st.

There is photo gallery in front of the Sorbonne in honor of the May 1968 events. Luxembourg gates have a new photo gallery as well. Enjoy a rather quiet day in Paris. It doesn%26#39;t happen often.

Since Flashby just mentioned the May 68 events, if anyone is curious, as I was, about what went on in Paris at that time, here is a great link.

thanks for the link slowpokesf. Still amazing to hear and see all that went on 40 years ago right down the street from my apartment.

Anyone have any thoughts on how the Tour Eiffel might be on May 1? Between the wind/rain and holiday-makers coming *into* town for a long weekend, it might not be advisable, but I thought it%26#39;s worth asking.
