New Years Eve in Paris

My husband and I, daughter and partner will be in Paris New Years Eve 2008. We won%26#39;t be arriving until 6.45 pm at Paris Est. Staying I hope in a hotel previously stayed in near the Louvre. Wondering what to do to celebrate New Years Eve. Don%26#39;t want to spend huge amounts of money. A reasonable dinner is ok. Thought perhaps to go somewhere to view the fireworks at midnight but where? Given that it will be cold. Don%26#39;t want to be in amongst the big crowds as my daughter doesn%26#39;t see well at night and would be disorientated. Does anyone have any ideas please. Thanks

Restaurants by the monuments are quite pricey for dinner that evening and most places will require reservations (even at a bistro or brasserie). Ask your hotel when you reserve the room for suggestions.

Eiffel Tower and Champs Elysees are very crowded and can get a bit crazy. (one hour to walk the length of Champs du Mars) I would suggest just camping out on a bridge to watch fireworks but be far enough from the crowds.

New Years is quite the night. The reserved French let their hair down and singing and dancing is everywhere with people wishing you a good year and good health. Really a good time.

There were no %26quot;official%26quot; fireworks in Paris last New Year%26#39;s Eve. Only those set off by party-goers near the Eiffel Tower.

Ask your hotel to make reservations for you, or make them yourself before arriving. Many restaurants have special higher priced menus that night.

Traditionally, the thing to do on New Year%26#39;s Eve is to enjoy a special dinner in your local restaurant to celebrate the feast day of Saint Sylvester. Most restaurants will put on a special festive menu for that evening and it is important to book a table as early as possible.

There probably will not be organised fireworks as the city only does this in significant years. Still, the crowds will gather in the usual places to bring in the New Year with champagne and greetings of %26quot;Bonne Année%26quot;.

Thanks for the replys. A bit disappointed that there doesn%26#39;t seem to be too many fireworks. Especially considering what Sydney puts on. How does one go about finding a resturant other than the hotel booking one. Anyone know of something good close to the Louvre.
