House-hunting in Canet Plage

Any advice from anybody please re. where exactly to buy, how long is the %26#39;season%26#39;, how quiet is it in Wintertime etc. etc. We love the town but have only seen it in June (when it still seemed closed, which suited us as we had the beach to ourselves but not so good as far as holiday rentals go!) We%26#39;re going next week so may get a better idea but would appreciate any advice from anyone..

Bonsoir Frenchkiss,

I do not know if you are still looking to purchase in Canet en roussillon or not?

Canet is only really busy in July and August (regarding holiday rentals) but there is a thriving rental business with University of Perpignan students from September to June each year!

It is very quiet in the wintertime with crowds only on the main Europeans bank holidays.

We tend to visit Argeles sur mer much more and it seems to have a longer holiday season than Canet, with more shops ,restaurants remaining open until the end of September.

If you need any other infos just Pm me and I%26#39;ll be happy to help you out.

Best of luck,

Baltageus

The %26quot;season%26quot; starts at Easter and ends at the end of September.

There are lots of supermarkets in the area which are open all year round : Lidl and Intermarché in Canet-Village, Casino in Canet-Plage, Carrefour a few miles away.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Still love Canet in June (as quiet but warm) but having visited in March and September are now buying a flat in Perpignan instead as just 10 minutes from the beach in the summer but with loads of stuff going on in the winter too.

Anyone out there visited Le Brasilia Canet PLage in May and June. We are going last week in May and first week of June. Wanting to know what the weather is like then and where the supermarkets are as have 2 toddlers. Readin reviews it seems very quiet during those months and I%26#39;m worried I wont be able to purchase basics like milk and bread when we land.7pm at night.

If you land at 7pm in Perpignan, you will arrive at 8pm at the very earliest and shops will be closed except for Carrefour (approx. 7 km from the village) which is open every day except Sunday until 10 pm.

From Le Brasilia to the nearest superettes in Canet (Intermarché or Lidl) count a 15 mn walk. There are shops in Le Brasilia, though.

May and June are usually very nice.

I spent several Summers working in Canet and at that time of the year it is still coming to life. Although the centre of the town is operational year round, some of the bars etc. are still opening up. You should be able to get the basics at Brasilia, but perhaps not on the first night. The beaches will be quiet and most of the nightlife, off site, will be in the centre of the town, next to the Carosel - I think there is a bus, but not sure of times.
