Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris Austerlitz Train Station

My father in law will be arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport at 11am and needs to get to Paris Austerlitz Train station by 3pm.

What train or means of transportation is best for him to take from airport to train station??????????

About how long should it take him????????

About how much should it cost??????

|||

The easiest way would be to take a taxi, which would cost about 60 Euros. A shuttle would be another possibility--I don%26#39;t think taking the RER train would be a good idea if he will have much luggage.

|||

Assuming he is reasonably fit and did not pack the kitchen sink in his suitcase, this would be an easy trip to make by public transport.

Your FiL should take the RER Line B from CDG to St-Michel/Notre-Dame. Any train would serve the purpose but an express train would be preferable. By looking at the indicator boards showing the stations served by the train he will be easily able to distiguish an express as they make their first stop at Gare du Nord. St-Michel/Notre-Dame will be the second stop after Gare du Nord.

At Gare du Nord he should follow the Correspondances (Transfers) signs to RER Line C Direction Massy-Palaiseau/Dourdan/St-Marin-d%26#39;Étampes. ANY train travelling in this direction will take him to Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz, which will be the first stop.

The trip should take about 35-40 minutes and cost about 8€. He should keep his ticket handy as he will need it to exit the turnstiles when he arrives at G. d%26#39;A.

Of course if money is no object a taxi would be easier but not necessarily quicker, since traffic congestion might affect the travel time.

He should have no problem getting to G. d%26#39;A. by 3:00 PM, whichever way he chooses to travel.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;take the RER Line B from CDG to St-Michel/Notre-Dame......the Correspondances (Transfers) signs to RER Line C Direction Massy-Palaiseau/Dourdan/St-Marin-d%26#39;Étampes. ANY train travelling in this direction will take him to Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz, which will be the first stop.%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

This will be the simplest and most direct routing ***UNLESS*** you will be traveling beteen July 17th and August 26th (approx). During this period, the RER %26#39;C%26#39; ligne will be temporarily shut down for repair work on the section from INVALIDES and SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME to GARE d%26#39;AUSTERLITZ. Connecting RER %26#39;C%26#39; ligne service between SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME will NOT be available.

If this temporary closure falls within your travel dates then take the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne--ROISSYRAIL--train from CDG as detailed, only as far as CHATELET-Les HALLES and then make the quick train switch to the RER %26#39;A%26#39; ligne (any train heading in the direction of Boissy Saint Leger.... Marne La Vallee-Chessy ..or Torcy Marne La Valee--any %26#39;N xxx%26#39;%26#39;, %26#39;O xxx%26#39; or %26#39;Q xxx train) to GARE de LYON (one stop) and then follow the diagrams for the long Correspondence between Gare de Lyon anfd GARE d%26#39;AUSTERLITZ.

I just noticed an error in my original reply. The paragraph that begins %26quot;At Gare du Nord he should follow...%26quot; should of course read %26quot;At St-Michel/Notre-Dame he should follow...%26quot; etc., etc. Hope that didn%26#39;t confuse you..

KDKSAIL: My understanding is that the travel date in question is before the start of the interruption to service on the RER Line C. I wonder though if that were an issue if it would not be better to change to the Métro Line 5 at Gare du Nord, rather than the routing you suggest. I%26#39;ve never made the Correspondance from G. de L. to G. d%26#39;A. but I%26#39;ve walked more or less the same route on surface streets and it is not a short walk. I wasn%26#39;t actually aware unti I read your post that there was a subterranean connection between the two stations.

Evidently I missed the vague reference to approximate travel time/dates in the litany of other threads by the questioner.

Via either alternate routing--RER %26#39;B%26#39; %26amp; #5 Metro or RER %26#39;B%26#39; %26amp; %26#39;A%26#39; ---the time and distances for Correspondences are probably going to be about as long and about equally confusing...one way or another. In the absence of the RER %26#39;C%26#39; ligne connection being available...any slight %26#39;..advantage..%26#39; would have to go to the all-RER %26#39;B%26#39; %26amp; %26#39;A%26#39; ligne connection....in that the transfer at Chatelet-Les Halles is quick and simple and one doesn%26#39;t have to leave the RER turnstile/gate-controlled portion of the system at the transfer stations until the very end of the journey.

If the travel date is before July 17th, then the RER %26#39;B%26#39; to SAINT MICHEL-NOTRE DAME and then the quick transfer over to the RER %26#39;C%26#39; to GARE d%26#39;AUSTERLITZ is simple, straightforward and pretty much %26#39;..idiot proof..%26#39;.

Hi Deelm, I see that IrishRovr has given you great directions for your trip and thanks for your post to me on the other thread. As IrishRovr said, when you post on a single topic, remember to use the reply function or all the bits of advice will pop up on different threads and it gets confusing. I hope your father in law has no trouble getting to his train from the airport - just tell him to follow IrishRovr%26#39;s advice and he will be fine.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; I wasn%26#39;t actually aware unti I read your post that there was a subterranean connection between the two stations.

I%26#39;m curious about this as well. KDKSAIL, can you expand on this?? The only connection I%26#39;m aware of is the new Pont Charles de Gaulles (well...it%26#39;s like 8 years old now), but it%26#39;s definitely over the river, not under.

|||

%26gt;%26gt; he only connection I%26#39;m aware of is the new Pont Charles de Gaulles (well...it%26#39;s like 8 years old now), but it%26#39;s definitely over the river, not under. %26lt;%26lt;

And it%26#39;s actually the only one that exists. Gare de Lyon-Gare d%26#39;Austerlitz are among the few pairs of stations that have %26quot;correspondance par la voie publique%26quot;, transfer through streets, with the same ticket.

There%26#39;s no underpass of any kind between the two.

Ah, if only Line 10 eastern terminus had been built at Gare de Lyon ! Now it%26#39;s too late.

|||

Thanks SHD. You%26#39;re awesome, by the way. I love your contributions to this board.

IrishRovr, so it%26#39;s about 8 euros per person from CDG to Paris Austerlitz?

I just trying to decide whether it%26#39;s worth to buy a Paris Visite 1-6 card. We are planning to be in Paris for 1 day and then 1 day back from South of France later in the month. What do you think??
