buying Carte Orange/Navigo Decouverte passes: by proxy?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if one member of our group can buy weekly transportation passes for all 5 of us, taking our photos with her to the nearest metro station (the Gare de Lyon) to do so? Or do we all have to make a personal appearance?

Thanks!

I think (I%26#39;m not 100% certain) that the requirements of the DÉCOUVERTE Carte Orange pass are that the actual user apply for it in-person. So I suppose that a particularly officious RATP ticket agent might refuse you if you showed up with five different photos for five different passes.

But having said that, some might just be willing to save themselves the trouble and hand over five DÉCOUVERTE to a single purchaser. The %26#39;..catch..%26#39; to this would be that there would probably have to be some sort of explanation and discussion of what you want/need....and you simply can%26#39;t rely on the average RATP ticket agent to be fluent in English (or want to be) nor suffer through an explanation in fractured %26#39;..horrible tourist French..%26#39;.

If you and others in your party will be using the Paris Metro system for the first time...a trip down into the Metro to purchase passes and get some sense of what the %26#39;system%26#39; is and how it %26#39;works%26#39; (take a Metro ride somewhere) right off the bat would probably be the best idea.
