Rent a car for 2 weeks or take public transportation?

My family of three have a flight and reservations in a small gite in Bourg St. Maurice, France for the last two weeks in December. I would appreciate some opinions on the least expensive car rentals from Geneva Airport. Which auto rental companies to avoid? Any recommendations? Thanks,

Also, any good grocery stores, bakeries and restaurants .

Hi,

I have always used Autoeurope 0800 169 9797 (uk number) www.auto-europe.co.uk,even though the companies contact details are in the uk they are actually based in Maine New England,so i imagine you should be able to find a U.S contact number.

For a weeks car hire at the end of December i should think you will pay in the region of about £165 - £190 ($298 - $344)depending on the exchange rate , + fuel and tolls.

The easier side of Geneva to exit from with a car is the Swiss side, rather than the French side but if you decide on the French side send me you%26#39;re home address to my email address located on my website at www.ski-bourgstmaurice-lesarcs.co.uk ,and i will post you a route to BsM.

In BsM there are three supermarkets ,at one end of town is Lidl%26#39;s which sells the basics, and at the other end of town is Super U ,and Intermarche which are traditional french supermarkets selling everything yocan imagine.

The town has several excellent bakeries ,two are located in the main centre of BsM,one is just opposite the Hotel du Ville and the other is located just up the street near the church.

As far as restaurants go there is not one bad place to eat in BsM,with quisines such as Cantonese, Mexican etc and of course local Savoyard specialities, restaurants i can reccommend are Hostllerie du Petite Saint Bernard ,Le Refuge ,Le Savoyard ,Ski Roc (excellent pizza%26#39;s,omelettes,burgers and pasta dishes etc), L%26#39;Indochine to name a few ,also out of town is the Auberge Le Perce Neige located halfway between BsM and Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise , and Le Ferme in the village of Le Pre located above Villaroger (also on the road out of Sainte-Foy (turn first right past the Hotel La Monal in Ste-Foy,down by the tennis court next t the cemetary and then follow the road).

I hope some of this is helpfull and if you have any more questions i will only be too glad t help, and if there is something i cannot help with, the beauty of sites like this is that there will always be someone else who can fill in the blanks.

Many Regards

Jon.

As stated above, I also recommend Autoeurope:

www.autoeurope.com

1-888-223-5555

I believe the rates for an economy car without insurance insurance will be higher than indicated above but call or contact Autoeurope for details.

Alamo has a two week rental for $650. Compact car. That%26#39;s the best I have seen on line so far. Thanks for the info. Mike

Hi again,

actually as Sarastro rightly says the price will be slightly higher than i previously stated as in my haste did not see that you are going for a couple of weeks, sorry, but i would still recommend giving them a look.
