Opera at the Opera Garnier in PARIS?

How do I go about buying the cheapest tickets for an Opera at the Garnier?

Can you recommend an Opera that will be playing from May 20 - 26, 2008.

As far as I can tell, there is only one opera playing at the Garnier for your dates, Gluck%26#39;s %26quot;Iphigenie en Tauride%26quot;. Gluck%26#39;s music is very listenable, particularly if you%26#39;re not really into classical music or opera, so it would be a nice combination of music/place/occasion and a good night out. I think the setting will be updated to contemporary times though, not set in the 1700s when it was written, so that might not be the experience you%26#39;re after. (Sorry, don%26#39;t mean to sound like a snob there - it%26#39;s always a danger when talking about opera!).

For a more %26quot;traditional%26quot; opera experience, %26quot;The Barber of Seville%26quot; by Rossini is on over at the Bastille. I know that the whole point is probably to attend an opera at the Garnier, but the Rossini is probably more fun in terms of being more what you would expect an opera to be.

As far as prices go, it seems as though your options are limited. The cheapest I can find quickly are via the Opera de Paris site - click on the opera you want, then on %26quot;Reserver%26quot;, then on the English flag in the top right corner. It will take you to a page where you%26#39;ll have to register to buy tickets. At this stage, the Sunday 25 May matinee for Iphigenie has the cheapest tickets - 39 euros; other than this, you%26#39;re looking at paying over 100 euros. You could wing it and buy them at the ticket office when you get there.
