I am visiting Rome with two friends and we%26#39;d like to visit Lourdes from there. I appreciate if anybody can tell me if we can take a train to Lourdes. what are the connection towns? We have two weeks for the entire trip, and we%26#39;d like to visit Barcelona, Spain too??
Thanks

what an ambitious program. Train, forget it, very complicate. I suggest you to fly from Roma to San Sebastian (Spain) then take a taxi to the Irun railway station, then the train to Lourdes and same way for your return. But frankly, do you have a special desire to visit Lourdes, Pilgrim ?? if not, forget it, really nothing special there. And to Barcelona, you also have a flight from San Sebastian to Barcelona. Or, if you forget Lourdes, a direct flight from Roma to Barcelona ... try www.edreams.fr for your flight%26#39;s research ...Barcelona is a wonderfull town

If money is not a concern, then according to the Air France website, there are daily flights from Rome to Bordeaux (about 700€), then a direct train service to Lourdes.
Otherwise, I agree with philpetrus, this is a complicated journey whichever way you try to do it. Travel by train between countries means you are crossing borders between different national rail operators, which don%26#39;t necessarily connect well. Even at its shortest, Rome to Lourdes is about 24 hours and involves between 2 and 5 changes and either an overnight sleeper train, or a night on Livorno station. However, if you have a couple of weeks, you could take some stops en route to see other places, either in Italy, France or Spain.
You can check train times (not prices, they are on individual operators websites) on the German railways website, which is more user-friendly than others reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en? You%26#39;ll probably need a map to follow the routings.
Good luck!

Sorry, I meant to add, if this is a pilgrimage, I believe there are charter flights from around Europe direct to Lourdes airport, but you%26#39;d probably need to ask about that through the church.

I%26#39;m going to travel from Lourdes to Rome (the same route, but different direction as yours), so my itinerary might give you some idea. I will travel by train from Lourdes to Paris - about 5 hours (check www.raileurope.com). From Paris I%26#39;ll fly with a low cost airline Easy Jet to Rome (CIA) (www.easyjet.com). You might be able to get a discount price from raileurope.

Recently did this trip, 6 days in Rome, 5 days in France (add a flying day on each side from/to US). You can probably squeeze in Barcelona. But I read there is special security going into Spain. Update yourself before you go.
Rome has boats, trains, planes and cars to go to your destinations. We flew round trip Rome to Paris.
SNCF Trains in France to our destinations. Paris to Lourdes on a TGV was about a 5-1/2 hour train ride.
There is a Barcelona to Lourdes topic on Trip Advisor Forums. You can do it, its just how you do it that would be the challenge.
Oh, was Lourdes worth it? To me most definitely.

Another option is to fly from Rome to Toulouse (AF twice daily weekdays), then short bus ride into Toulouse station for 2 hour train journey to Lourdes. Please do not be put off by negative comments from others who have not been there, but also allow a few days to fully appreciate the true meaning of Lourdes. For further information on Lourdes read the Forum Welcome and FAQ stickies above.
