I am writing this from our hotel room on our first full day in Paris.
We left Devon at around lunch time on Wednesday and had a hassle free and easy train journey to London. We got the tube to King%26#39;s Cross from Paddington and checked in to our hotel, the Meridiana (full hotel report on our return, but it was ok for a stop over but not great generally).
We went straight out to meet my brother-in-law, looked around the National Gallery and then had a few drinks at the Oxo tower before dinner at the National Theatre, which was very pleasant.
The next day we caught the Eurostar to Gard du Nord. Our trip was quick and smooth and we were not involved in the fire that snared up the Chunnel later on in the day.
We got our Visites from St. Pancras, so we got straight on the RER to Luxembourg and checked in to the Hotel des Mines (again, full hotel write up when I get home, but it is pleasant enough apart from being on a RER linge rather than Metro, which is proving quite annoying!)
We headed straight out after freshening up and took our 2007 Michelin Guide to find somewhere for dinner. We walked all around the St Michel area, through St Germaine, saw Notre Dame and walked on the Ile St Michel and Ile de la Cite.
We stopped for a vin rose/beer at the Place de la Sorbonne and saw the photos of Mai 1968 before heading back to our chosen restaurant, Le Mediterrannee. This was a lovely place. We had the set menu. We both started with soupe du poisson, which was quite delicious, as always! I followed this with swordfish and courgette tagliatelle, whilst my hubby had duckling with petits pois and sugarsnap peas. Then we finished with creme brulee and pistache ice cream. The meal, wine and ambiance were all wonderful.
After a good nights sleep we headed out for breakfast, as it is not included in our hotel and we enjoy the adventure of finding a cafe. We decided to be boring today and went to Brioche Doree, a chain we often frequent in Nice.
Once caffeined-up we headed down to Pont d%26#39;Alma to go to the Egouts (Sewers) museum - however our DK Guide didn%26#39;t tell us it was shut on Fridays... Oh well, we might try again tomorrow.
We went up to the Champs Elysees for my loved one to visit Fnac and had lunch at Leon de Bruxelles (moules marinieres et frites plus gauffres au chocolat). After a rest at the hotel we went to Montpernasse to get baguette, cheese and patisseries. Then we walked around the Jardins du Luxembourg (there is an excellent and very moving display of photos on the fence of the gardens currently running - well worth a look) before returning here to the hotel for our meal and a few glasses of wine/beer, a DVD and sleep!
Tomorrow we have our reservation at Maceo (can%26#39;t wait!) plus whatever we decide to do (probably a walk along the Canal St Martin or Montmatre).
More later!

We will also be staying on the RER C line when we are in Paris in September; we have an apartment booked on rue de l%26#39;Universite that will be closer to the Pont de l%26#39;Alma RER station than any of the neighboring Metro stations. It does seem that we will be headed toward St Michel that has both RER and Metro, so maybe it will be okay.
Where are you located?
Hopefully I won%26#39;t be annoying if I ask what the cost was of that nice dinner at Le Mediterrannee.....
Thanks, sounds like you are going all over the place!

Hiya BillMc,
We%26#39;re located near Luxembourg station on Linge B (the blue one). We have used linge C a couple of times this trip and there seem to be quite a number of trains running (one every 5-10 mins during the day). If you are near Pont d%26#39;Alma there is also the Alma Marceu Metro stop just across the Seine.
The menu at La Med. was €32 per person for three courses, wine was quite pricey (for France) as you had to go by the bottle or half bottle, so with that, beer, cafe and celebratory %26quot;we%26#39;re in Paris!!!%26quot; kir royals to start it all came to around €100. Very much worth it, tho%26#39;, it was a gorgeous meal!
