Monopods in Paris

I%26#39;ve done a search and found information on tripods in Paris but not monopods.

I%26#39;d like to take my monopod with me to Paris and was wondering if I will face the same restrictions as tripod users?

In situations where I am not allowed to use it, has anyone had experience of whether it is ok to still carry it around or would it be taken away from me? I don%26#39;t want to get in the situation where I cannot go into somewhere because I have nowhere to leave my monopod securely.

Any advice is most appreciated.

You will have to check it in at museums.

Tripods are ok on street. Not in parks or near monuments. Some people do it however. If you get %26quot;caught%26quot; worse can happen is that you will be asked to leave. It happened to me once at Palais Royal gardens. I was told I had to write to a certain office and ask for a permit. If you carry a tripod and heavy equipement, you are thought to be a professional in which case you have to pay some dues to film/photograph.

BTW I do not find monopods very usefull. I prefer using a higher ASA/ISO and get my body in a good stable position.

Many thanks. I am limited to weight when flying into Paris so it has to be a monopod rather than a tripod.

I had major wrist surgery just before Xmas and the monopod will help ease the strain though I want it more for the night and interior shots more than the day time exterior ones. It has to be better than nothing. The problem is, once out of our hotel for the day/evening, it may not be practical to nip back to pick up the monopod so I have to make the decision whether or not to take it with me for the day:-(

I have a Canon 30D and prefer to keep my ISO down to minimise noise if I can. It isn%26#39;t good above 400 and I can go to 800 at a stretch but i really don%26#39;t want to go higher.

Thanks for your reply

We carry a monopod all the time -- the only tripod we carry is a tiny one for taking pictures of ourselves.

We%26#39;ve never even been acknowledged to be carrying it, let along asked to move along.

We had to check it at...Chambord, I think it was -- along with all bulky bags, and have never once had a problem with it.

That is encouraging, thank you.
