question for Delphineprovence

We are a family visiting in October, and I%26#39;m thinking about renting a gite near Aix-en-Provence so we can do day trips to La Camargue, Arles, and maybe into Italy. Does this sound too difficult to you? What would be the best area to stay for this purpose? Do you think the gite accommodation will be heavily booked at that time? And what will the weather be like?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

If you plan to visit Camargue and Arles, it might be better to rent a gite in this area. Most of bull and horses breeders rent gites or bedrooms. In French these farms are called %26quot;manades%26quot;. It is one of the better way to discover their life and their traditions. It is also the best way to visit Camargue as a big part of this natural area is privately owned by farmers.

Aix en Provence is a central point is you want to visit Provence, generally.... 1 hour from Avignon, 1 hour from Arles, 1h30 from Nimes, 45 min from Marseille, 45 mn from the Luberon... depends on what you want to do and see....

The Italian border is at about 2h30 from Aix, and 1 hour more from Arles.

The first italian city is Vintimille, a very typical city. There is a great market every friday. Be carefull, there are a lot of counterfeits... the French custums often stop you on the way back and destroy your articles if they are not real. Buying food and alcohol is interesting there because less expansive than in France. (you will see thousands of French people bringing back %26quot;pastis%26quot; !)

From Vintimille to the north there are marvellous medieval villages (Dolceacqua for example)... can be done easyly in the same day.

You shouldn%26#39;t have problems to find a gite in october. There are still quite a lot of tourists at this period of the year but they don%26#39;t go to gites. (you can negociate the price).

USUALLY the weather is still mild in october (nice colours) but we never know ! Can be windy... cold...raining...

Write me again if you want more information

How does one get from the train station at Aix Provence to St. Baume Grotto?

Thank you in advance for your help!
