We%26#39;re planning to rent a car at the Bordeaux Airport, go to the Dordogne for a week, then come back to Bordeaux, return the car and start a week-long bike trip. The bike trip organizers will arrange for our transport from either the airport or the train station to our first night%26#39;s lodging. The car rental company will let us return the car to either the airport or the train station for the same price. Since we%26#39;ve never been to Bordeaux, we don%26#39;t know which would be the best/least stressful place to return the car and meet up with our organizers. Any advice? Are you out there, dmjwineworks? You seem to be Monsieur Bordeaux!

Since you have the option of returning the car to either location and can get transportation from the tour organizers from the drop-off point, I%26#39;d certainly recommend going to the airport.
Generally speaking, there is pretty much the same wide choice of agencies present at each location, and both offer a good stock of vehicles. However, where the train station has traditionally come up short is in the accessibility of the cars: the rental offices were conveniently located at the front of the station, but to get the car you had to then wend your way through badly-marked passageways to the other side of the station where the agencies have their parking lots.
A couple of months ago a change was made in this arrangement, and now the rental offices are located at the rear of the station right next to the parking lots. This has certainly made getting to the car much easier, but--and this is the part which directly concerns you, jb50--you still have to navigate your way through a maze of small, often one-way streets to leave the lots or return a car.
Returning a car to the airport is much, much easier. The rental agencies%26#39; zone is clearly marked within the airport parking lot, and is right across for the terminal buildings. The airport is much farther away from Bordeaux city, but since the bike trip organizers will be coming to take you back into town, distance from the city center is not a consideration you have to worry about.
Sorry for the rather long answer to a rather simple question, but I thought that you might wish to know not just the basic piece of advice, but also the reasons behind it.

Merci, Monsieur Bordeaux (aka dmjwineworks)! I thought that the airport might be easier, but I wanted to make sure. It is so great when someone local to the area takes an interest in the forums!
