best area to stay for weekend break?

Hi - looking for some advice on the best area of Paris to stay in for a weekend getaway break. this would be our first visit to paris. planning a 3 night stay arriving on a thursday morning away sunday. Just want to do lots of walking visit the usual suspects and have the odd glass of wine or two!

Can anyone suggest the best district to sat in for easy access to the sights? any hotel suggestions would be great?

also what is the best way to get from CDG airport into the city - are shuttles worth the extra or is it just as easy to get bus/train?

thanks in anticipation

Sues x

If you do not have much luggage, take bus or train.

A good place to stay at is the 6th near Blvd Saint Germain/Eglise Saint Germain des Pres (i.e. on rue Jacob) or on the other bank, a hotel near Opera and grands boulevards and Madeleine. Rue de l%26#39;Arcade and rue des Mathurins are good locations for sightseeing by walk, quieter during week end than left bank.

A few names: hotel du Danube on Rue Jacob or Hotel Folkestone on rue de Castellane. Of course there are thousands of other choice. For last address you can take Roissy bus to Opera.

I do not recommend shuttles. If you are at least 2 people take a taxi instead of a shuttle.
