Hey, we are heading to Paris on the 12th of july 08 and stayin for 3 days before heading round europe, we are roughing it on our travels but are struggling to find any advice on what direction to go in- where to go that isnt totally %26quot;touristy%26quot; we want to see the tourist things but would prefer to not pay through the nose just to stay in the city instead of walking, our legs work fine and we are pretty nifty on trains.
Any advice on where to go, stay or directions in which to travel would be greatly appreciated :-P
thanks guys :-)

Have you looked on a hostelling site and tried to find a hostel yet??? If not do that, there are apparently a few in Paris that are decent enough and not in suburbs.
There is also a hotel called the %26quot; Perfect Hotel%26quot; which is also in city, cheap, apparently clean , but will most likely be booked up,, you HAVE left it rather late,, July in PAris is mega busy, and you do realize that July 14th is a very important holiday right?? Bastille day, fireworks parades etc, don%26#39;t leave town on the 14th or you will miss a wonderful street party atmosphere!
Never mind the touristy versus non touristy sites crap, its PARIS IN JULY,, there are going to be almost no places that will not be crowded with tourists, save you fantasys of not being in a touristy area for when you get out of Paris and into a smaller town.. come on!
See Notre Dame, ET, climb the Arc De Triomphe, check out the cafes ,, and enjoy Paris as it is,,, make some time for doing nothing !
Personally if you are only staying a few days I wouldn%26#39;t waste time commuting to the suburbs,, just get cracking and you could find something %26quot;in town%26quot; so to speak.
